Start Your Own Medicinal Garden

May 12, 2024 · By All Natural Team

Growing your own medicinal herbs is deeply rewarding — and easier than you might think. Even a sunny windowsill or a small patch of yard can become a living pharmacy.

Start with the essentials. Calendula, chamomile, peppermint, lemon balm, and echinacea are forgiving, useful, and beautiful. They tolerate beginner mistakes and reward you generously.

Give them light and drainage. Most medicinal herbs want at least six hours of sun and soil that doesn't stay soggy. Raised beds and containers make this simple.

Harvest with care. Pick herbs in the morning after the dew dries but before the heat of the day, when their oils are most concentrated.

Dry and store. Hang small bundles in a dark, airy space, then store the dried herbs in labeled glass jars away from light.

Within a single season you can be making your own teas, salves, and tinctures from plants you grew yourself.
